The Housing Tenants' and Leaseholders' Scrutiny Group is the local authority official body that will scrutinise Sandwell Council housing services to ensure they are being delivered to the expected consistent standards and respond to customer feedback to ensure services meet the needs of local tenants.
This will be conducted through a series of meetings with housing management and associated contractors. The group consists of a diverse mix of council tenants and leaseholders from across Sandwell.
The role and function of the group:
To choose appropriate housing issues and topics for review and scrutiny with respect to:
- Governance
- Strategy and policy development
- Delivery of services to residents
The group will hold the council’s housing services to account by looking at how it meets its operational targets.
It will examine how the services engage with customers and other stakeholders to obtain feedback, which will be used to compare and improve the council’s performance against comparable organisations.
Through effective scrutiny and enquiry, the group will support the delivery of the council’s vision, mission and objectives for housing. The group will promote and build the organisation’s reputation.
The group will consider all professional advice. It will request additional support and clarification, whenever necessary, in order to conduct effective enquiries and make informed decisions and recommendations.
The scrutiny group will be supported by the council's Community Partnerships Team.
The housing reforms and measures were introduced following the Grenfell Tower tragedy on 14 June 2017.
