COMING UP! Birmingham Jazz and Blues festival at sandwell museums.
Join us as we are part of Birmingham Jazz and Blues festiaval once again this year. Come along for some FREE live music at our museums. Information regarding artists to follow. All our gigs are free and no need to book - why not bring a posh picnic to enjoy.
Friday 18th – Bromwich Hall – 19:30pm – Slide Boy Roy. Slide Boy Roy is a blues and a roots rock n roll band, free just turn up (tea and coffee being served only you are welcome to bring your own picnic)
Saturday 19th – Bromwich Hall – 12:00 – The Shufflepack. Five guys who set out to play swinging R&B and shuffling blues. That’s proper R&B kids, not RnB, that funny new stuff they do now. What you get is a taste of 1950s Chicago, with a bit of 1940s here and there. Free just turn up. (tea and coffee being served at the bar only, you are welcome to bring your own picnic), Free Just turn up
Sunday 20th – Oak House – 12:00 – The Good Stuff TBC - The Good Stuff is an immersive live gospel-soul act featuring a 14-piece live band of singers and musicians performing a wide variety of reworked gospel, neo soul, RnB and pop anthems - sit in the grounds and birng your picnic, Free just turn up
Friday 25th – Wednesbury Museum & Art Gallery – 19:00 –Vee-Jay King and his Dukes serve up a glorious mix of West Coast Rhythm and Blues and the Swamp Blues of Louisiana. (tea and coffee being served, you are welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy at your table) Free, just turn up
Saturday 26th – Wednesbury Museum & Art Gallery – 12:00 – Alan Barnes & Dave Newton. Alan Barnes and David Newton have been playing duets together for over 40 years. These multi award-winners cover a vast repertoire from Louis Armstrong to Chick Corea and play with an empathy that can only come with long experience. The emphasis, as always, is on swinging, accessibility and interplay (tea and coffee available, you are welcome to bring a posh picnic to enjoy at your table. Free, just turn up
Sunday 27th – Haden Hill House – 14:00 – Chickenbone John & Harmonica Dave King of the three string (and sometimes only 2 or 4) cigar box guitar. Chickenbone John’s guitars are hand made in Smethwick by John himself. Bring a picnic and picnic blanket or chair and sit on the grass and enjoy. Free just tuen up.
We have a fantastic programme of activities across our sites for all ages to enjoy throughout the year including school holiday fun, activities for adults and families with under 5s or children with additional needs - Our family and comunity events are free or afforable and you can enjoy dance, crafts, talks, walks, re-enactments, shows, community groups and loads more to enjoy.
January sees our sites clearing up after the festive period and undertaking deep cleans. From February we will be welcoming schools, community groups and other pre-booked groups into our museums as well as some events and activities and from April our spring and summer programme begins of open days and events and activities.

General visitor information for those visiting Sandwell Museums
- You don't need to book to visit on normal open days unless stated but you may need to book for some activities or events. See the listings for details. We always say if booking is required.
- We are unable to accommodate pushchairs, please leave them in the designated areas outside buildings
- Assistance dogs only at our sites. There is some limited access to part of our grounds at Oak House for dogs and Haden Hill House is in a public park.
- We will post any unforseen closures or restricted access to our sites on our Sandwell Museums Facebook page.
