Applying for a Private Hire Vehicle or Taxi Vehicle Licence
New and Renewal Vehicle Applications
If you are applying for a new/replacement/renewal of an existing Private Hire or Taxi vehicle licence, you will need to create an online account. Please click on the box below and follow the instructions to create an account and submit an application. Transfer applications to be submitted by email to taxi_licensing@sandwell.gov.uk
When booking an appointment for a vehicle test with our Council Garage, please ensure when you are requesting the appointment at Section 8 of the application, that you request a “FULL TEST” as this includes both the MOT and compliance checks that are required to licence a vehicle. Please follow the instructions in the email when your vehicle passes to upload your pass certificate into the vehicle application.
Apply for a private hire vehicle or Taxi licence
When you apply, you will be required to upload a number of documents which will include:
- V5 Vehicle Log Book
- Vehicle Insurance Certificate that includes Hire and Reward
- Current Driving Licence
- Meter Calibration Certificate (Hackney vehicles only)
- LOLER certificate if the vehicle is fitted with a tail lift
- LPG Certificate if vehicle has been converted - less than 12 months old from UKLPG Installer
- Applicants who are not licensed drivers will also have to provide a basic DBS check and pass a knowledge test
- All vehicles must meet M1 Status
