Garage VAT

Some customers have to pay VAT on their garage rental. All customers that have to pay VAT must be invoiced rather than being issued with a quarterly statement; this is a requirement from His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Who has to pay VAT on Garages?

Customers who are not tenants, occupants or leaseholders of Sandwell Council properties have to pay VAT.

Your garage details will still be available on our internal system Open Housing to raise repairs etc. but will show a zero charge. The charge will be raised through an invoice on our invoicing system (SBS).

I have to pay VAT, can I pay by Direct Debit?

Following an instruction from HMRC, customers who have to pay VAT on their garage rental will now be invoiced. The system we have to use to raise invoices does not allow weekly / monthly direct debit payments.

In April each year, you will receive an invoice for your garage rent. The ways to pay will be by:

Payments must be made either monthly or annually against your invoice, as there will be no option to pay this charge weekly.

How can I check my account?

You can view your online balance or to make a payment against your invoice. Click on Invoice, select next and input your 15-digit reference number correctly.
