Forge Mill Farm has proudly wrapped up a hugely successful “Farming Fortnight,” welcoming over 880 participants from 41 groups to the farm in the last two weeks.
The event was held in conjunction with LEAF’s Open Farm Sunday and Schools Week. Of the group visits nine were made possible through funding from the Countryside Stewardship Education Access Grant.
Throughout farming fortnight children and young people had a hands-on opportunity to explore the world of farming, food production and the natural environment. Activities included guided farm tours, worm hunting, hedgerow investigations, visits to the ‘Food Field’, seed planting, flour grinding, all designed to provide new opportunities and experience for children and young people from Sandwell and beyond.
The success of Farming Fortnight is part of a broader and rapidly growing education and outreach programme at Forge Mill Farm. Just two years ago, the farm only hosted a handful of formal educational visits. In 2024, that number soared to 445 groups with over 8000 participants taking part in one of the farm themed programmes.
The farm now offers year-round learning opportunities to encounter farming that align with the national curriculum. All are designed to provide new opportunities and experience while building confidence and resilience.
Forge Mill Farm offers both funded and paid-for visits for schools and community groups. To find out more or to book a visit, please contact the Forge Mill Farm Education and Outreach Team or visit us online
