On rare occasions families seek to have the remains of their loved ones exhumed from one of our cemeteries or crematoria.

There are strict regulations that need to be adhered to in order for an exhumation to be carried out.

Families must apply for a licence from the Ministry of Justice before an exhumation can take place. This licence always carries a number of regulations to ensure the remains are exhumed safely and with reverence.

An exhumation can be expensive and requirements differ depending on what is being exhumed. We recommend contacting us on 0121 569 6701 to discuss the process before you submit an application form.

The Exhumation Application form and guidance notes along with more information can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

For cremated remains that are in above ground memorials, you can apply directly to Bereavement Services using our removal of ashes from an above ground memorial application form.
