How catch-up collections work
When collections are dropped, our crews must complete both the backlog and the scheduled rounds. In Sandwell we collect around 41,000 bins a day, so even with all crews out the following day to collect the scheduled collections we then need to look at anything that needs to be revisited with overtime or support crews, there’s only so much we can catch-up in a day due to driving hours and resources available. This means one missed day can take several days to fully recover.
