Help Shape Sandwell’s Housing Policies – Public Consultation Opens Mid-August

Sandwell Council is updating two important housing policies — and we want your input. Whether it’s tackling damp and mould or managing trees on council land, your feedback will help us deliver services that reflect the real needs of our communities.

Damp, Mould and Condensation Policy
Everyone deserves a safe, dry, and healthy home. This draft policy sets out how we will:
• Act quickly on reports of damp and mould, with clear timeframes.
• Take full responsibility — no blame on tenants and leaseholders.
• Prioritise urgent risks under Awaab’s Law and improve energy efficiency where needed.
• Support vulnerable tenants and leaseholders and communicate clearly at every step.

Tree Policy
Trees enhance our communities and contribute to a greener Sandwell. This updated policy will:
• Outline how we manage, inspect and maintain trees on individual council housing properties.
• Clarify that the Council handles dead, dying or diseased trees, while healthy tree maintenance is usually the tenant’s responsibility.
• Promote safe and sustainable tree planting.
• Allow for exceptions where tenants and leaseholders may need additional support.

Public Consultation Launches Mid-August
We want to hear from you. Tenants and leaseholders can take part in the consultation in two ways:
