Premises licence fee

The fee for your licence depends upon the non-domestic rateable value of your premises. These fees are set nationally by Central Government and not by Sandwell Council so we are unable to vary them in any way.

Non domestic rateable value: £125,001 and above
Band: E
License Fee: £635*

*If the premises rateable value is in Bands D or E and the premises is primarily used for the consumption of alcohol on the premises then you are required to pay a higher fee

If you are not sure of the non-domestic rateable value of your premises you can obtain this information by telephoning the Local Business Rates Office on: 0121 368 1155, or you may obtain the information from the website of the National Valuation Office.

When you have established the non-domestic rateable value for the premises use the table to establish the licence fee to be paid. Cheques are to be made payable to Sandwell M.B.C.

If you operate a large event, especially those help outdoors and involving more than 5000 people at any one time, you are subject to ADDITIONAL fees based upon the number in attendance.

Premises which are exempt from Fees

Where an application relates to 'regulated entertainment' only, and no other licensable activity is being applied for, the following premises are exempt from paying a licence fee:

  • Any educational establishment which consists of a school or college and where the provision of regulated entertainment is carried on for and on behalf of the purposes of the school or college.
  • Any premises which are, (or form part of), a church hall, chapel hall, village hall, parish hall, community hall, or other similar building.

A "school" means a school within the meaning of section 4 of the Education Act 1996.

A "college" means a college or similar institution principally concerned with the provision of full-time education suitable to the requirements of persons over compulsory school age who have not attained the age of 19.
