There will be more money for resurfacing our roads and footpaths. We've already been judged by Government to have the fourth best roads in the country and in the next financial year we will invest an extra £1.5million on maintaining our key road network.
We’ve already delivered around 40 road safety schemes through our Community Concern programme to make our roads safer. The Community Concern programme will continue in the new financial year.
A £1.3million severe winter weather fund will help keep Sandwell moving in snow and icy weather.
CCTV and fly-tipping
We will invest in 62 new CCTV cameras to make our communities safer - building on the success of upgrading our CCTV in West Bromwich and Wednesbury.
We will create a brand-new fly-tipping enforcement team to track down people who dump their rubbish in our towns and neighbourhoods - almost doubling our funding for this and investing close to £1million. That means eight new members of staff, new vehicles and a new rapid response to fly-tipping incidents.
We will also more than double our funding for our anti-social behaviour team - with more than double the number of staff, and a new model of tackling anti-social behaviour to provide a better service for residents.
There will be another deep cleanse of every single ward in Sandwell next year.
Improving play areas
We will spend £1million on improving our play areas in our parks and green spaces right across our six towns.
Tree maintenance
We will plant more than 2,000 trees, keeping us on track to plant 10,000 trees by 2030. The budget for maintaining trees will be boosted by £400k for the next two financial years.
Tackling poverty
We have set up our own Aspiration Fund for Sandwell to look at how we can support our residents with the right jobs, the right skills and the right environment. This has secured £27million of funding from the Government over the next three years.
Recycling
We want more places where people can recycle and more support to help people make sure recycling doesn’t end up in landfill costing taxpayers more money.
We’re launching 34 new pop-up recycling centres to help us all reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. There will also be new litter bins on our streets helping keep our neighbourhoods clean.
