What is a Dementia-Friendly Community?
Sandwell Council is working to make our borough a Dementia-Friendly place – where people living with dementia can continue to feel valued, supported and included in every aspect of community life.
We want Sandwell to be a place where people understand dementia, speak openly about it, and make small, meaningful changes that help those affected to live well.
A Dementia-Friendly Community is one that:
- Understands dementia – so that people living with the condition feel recognised and respected.
- Reduces stigma – by encouraging open conversations and kindness.
- Makes places and services accessible – with physical environments and social settings that meet people's needs.
- Supports independence – by connecting people with information, services, and social opportunities.
- Involves those with lived experience – ensuring their voices guide local decision-making.
- Brings people together – with local residents, organisations and businesses all playing a part.
We are looking for local residents and council staff to get involved as either Dementia Champions or Dementia Ambassadors.
