Sandwell Council is working with Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) as part of the Cross City Bus programme, which aims to improve bus journey times and make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle across the West Midlands.
Highway works are taking place on the A457 Oldbury Ringway and A457 Dudley Road, on the north-western side of Oldbury town centre.
The works include:
- bus priority measures to improve journey times and reliability
- a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing
- carriageway and footway improvements, including a new eastbound bus lane and cycling infrastructure
- changes to road signs and carriageway markings.
Traffic management
From Sunday 27 September 2026, lanes on Dudley Road will be narrowed.
From Sunday 18 October 2026, Dudley Road will operate one-way towards Tipton. Traffic travelling towards Oldbury will be diverted via signed diversion routes.
These traffic management arrangements are expected to remain in place for a number of months, with diversions and temporary changes to some bus stops during the works.
Please allow extra time for your journey and check travel information before setting off.
The works will also support improvements to bus services along the route, including improved reliability for the 87 bus.
