Most Sandwell residents are South Staffs Water customers. A few people living in Cape Hill, on the border with Birmingham are Severn Trent Water customers.

How should I pay my water bill?

Monthly direct debit is generally the best method, particularly as more benefits are paid on a monthly basis. Some people on a low income pay using other methods such as a PayPoint card.

I am on a low income – can I get any help towards my water bill?

For South Staffs Water customers, check to see if you are eligible for the Assure tariff or the Watersure tariff.

Severn Trent Water customers may be eligible for the Big Difference Scheme.

Should I switch to a water meter?

If you are already getting a reduction in your water bill through the South Staffs Assure tariff or Severn Trent Big Difference Scheme you will need to think very carefully before you switch as you may not be eligible for both.

WaterSure is a national scheme designed to help families save money if they use a lot of water and receive certain income-related benefits. To be on the tariff you must have a water meter fitted.

WaterSure is a national scheme designed to help families save money if they use a lot of water and receive certain income-related benefits.

To be on the tariff you must have a water meter fitted. Customers on WaterSure pay for the water they use, up to a fixed maximum at which their bill is capped. This bill cap ensures that customers will pay less than the average household water bill.

I am not on a very low income but I still want to reduce my water bills - how can I do this?

You might be able to reduce your bills by switching to a water meter.
