Sandwell Council is celebrating National Youth Work Week by recognising the dedicated youth workers and support staff who make a positive difference to the lives of young people across the borough.
This year's theme, Where Futures Begin, recognises that every young person's journey is influenced by the relationships they build, the environments they feel part of and the opportunities they are given.
Through youth clubs, detached work in communities, outdoor education, arts activities and targeted support programmes, Sandwell Youth Service helps young people build confidence, develop new skills, improve their wellbeing and access opportunities that support their future aspirations.
Councillor Matt Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said:
"National Youth Work Week is an opportunity to say thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers who support young people across Sandwell every day.
Youth workers provide trusted relationships, safe spaces and life-changing opportunities that help young people thrive. Their commitment makes a real difference not only to young people, but to families and communities across our borough.
As we develop our Youth Transformation Pilot and new Youth Hubs, we're excited to work alongside young people, staff and partners to shape an even stronger youth offer for the future."
Priya, aged 15, who has been involved with Sandwell Youth Service for 2 years, said:
"The youth workers have always been there when I've needed someone to talk to. They've helped me build my confidence, try new things, believe in myself and helped me get back into education. Because of their support, I've had opportunities I never thought I'd have, met new people and gained skills that will help me in the future. Youth club feels like a place where I can be myself, and I'm really grateful for everything they've done for me."
This year's National Youth Work Week comes at an exciting time for youth services in Sandwell, with plans progressing for new Youth Hubs and investment through the Youth Transformation Pilot, helping ensure young people remain at the heart of the borough's future youth offer.
Young people, families and community organisations are encouraged to find out more about the opportunities available through Sandwell Youth Service and join the conversation during the week (2 – 8 November 2026.)
