Introduction of a new all-terrain mobility scooter available to hire at Sandwell Valley
Visitors with limited mobility now have more opportunities to experience Sandwell Valley Country Park on their own terms thanks to the introduction of a new all-terrain mobility scooter available to hire.
Sandwell Valley Country Park has partnered with Countryside Mobility to offer a Tramper hire service, helping visitors with limited mobility access more of the park and enjoy everything it has to offer with greater confidence, choice and independence.
The Tramper is a specially designed electric scooter that can travel across a variety of outdoor terrains, including slopes, uneven paths, tree roots, mud and puddles. By making more of the park accessible, it allows visitors to discover Sandwell Valley at their own pace and experience nature without mobility barriers limiting where they can go. With a maximum speed of 8mph, they can comfortably keep the pace with walking companions, making visits more enjoyable for families and groups. Dedicated Tramper routes are also available, giving visitors the opportunity to discover more of the park's landscapes, wildlife and attractions at their own pace.
The launch is another step in Sandwell Valley's commitment to creating a more inclusive visitor experience and ensuring more people can connect with nature and the outdoors.
Countryside Mobility is an award-winning, not-for-profit Tramper hire scheme and a growing network of more than 60 hire locations across the West of England and Wales. Sandwell Valley is the latest destination to join the scheme.
As part of the launch, Sandwell Valley staff have received specialist training through West Midlands Growth Company’s Destination Development Partnership funded Inclusive Tourism Programme. The park now has trained Accessibility Champions onsite, ensuring staff are equipped to support visitors and provide a welcoming experience for everyone.
Councillor Mike Cooper, Cabinet Member for Customer Services and Neighbourhoods, said:
"We are committed to creating places and services that are welcoming and inclusive for everyone. By introducing the Tramper, we are helping to remove barriers that may prevent people from enjoying Sandwell Valley and ensuring that more visitors can experience Sandwell Valley in a way that works for them, with fewer obstacles standing in the way of a great day out.
