New Smethwick Advice Centre opens

Sandwell residents are invited to access free confidential advice and support through the new Smethwick Advice Centre, launching at Smethwick Library.

The Advice Centre brings together experienced advisers from Sandwell Council and local voluntary and community sector organisations to help residents resolve a wide range of financial, housing and welfare issues.

The service is open to all Sandwell residents on a walk-in basis every Wednesday from 9.30am to 2.00pm at Smethwick Library, with no appointment required.

Residents can access support with:

  • Benefits
  • Debt
  • Immigration
  • Housing
  • Education & Employment
  • Consumer Rights
  • Energy Debt and Utility Bills
  • Rent Arrears
  • Mortgage Rescue
  • Charity and Grant Applications
  • Digital Support
  • Signposting and referrals to other specialist services

The Advice Centre has been established to make it easier for residents to access support in one convenient location. Rather than navigating multiple organisations, residents can receive advice and be connected to the most appropriate services through a coordinated and joined-up approach.

The service aims to support residents at the earliest opportunity, helping to maximise income, address financial pressures and prevent issues from escalating into crisis.

Councillor Gary Dale, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services said:

“Helping people with the cost of living is one of our priorities and we know many residents face a range of challenges that can affect their finances, housing and wellbeing. The Smethwick Advice Centre brings together advice and support services in one place, making it easier for people to get the help they need. We encourage any Sandwell resident who is struggling or unsure where to turn to come along and speak to an adviser."

The Advice Centre is available to all residents of Sandwell and is free to use.
