A new website has been launched, designed to make it easier for young people to explore their career ideas and take the next step in their careers journey.
Connexions Sandwell have been rebranded as Sandwell Careers Service. The rebrand and new website reflects the service’s core purpose: delivering high-quality, independent careers information, advice and guidance to young people aged 14 to 18.
The service supports young people to progress into post-16 education, employment – including apprenticeships – and training pathways. In the last year alone, the Connexions Sandwell service supported over 10,000 young people across Sandwell and ensured that over 98% school leavers moved into education, training or employment.
This fits in with Sandwell’s aspiration strategy – an investment we are making to prevent issues like lack of qualifications and unemployment which inevitably lead to high levels of poverty and deprivation.
Sandwell Careers Service will continue to work in every Sandwell school and training provider, offering a comprehensive and bespoke range of support. This includes:
- Independent one-to-one careers guidance interviews
- Group work sessions
- Attendance at parents’ evenings
- Targeted support for young people with SEND
- Dedicated support for children we care for
- Support for home educated young people
- Support for those known to the Youth Justice Service
Councillor Harnoor Bhullar, Sandwell Council's Cabinet Member for Education said:
“We want all our young people to have the best start in life and to help them on their career paths.
“As part of our Sandwell Story, launched last year, we’re supporting the workforce of tomorrow and helping young people to make it in Sandwell, through a wide range of educational opportunities, apprenticeships, training and more.”
Radiyah Sohail, Sandwell Council Customer Service Apprentice reviewed the website based on her own experiences:
“The Sandwell Careers Service website is clear, easy to navigate, and full of relevant information. It really opens your eyes to the wide range of the Post 16 opportunities available, and I would highly recommend it to anyone exploring their next steps.”
