Sandwell Council has been recognised as one of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2025 – one of only four local authorities nationally to achieve this ranking.
And the council is now proud to announce a bold new 100 Apprentices by 2027 programme following the launch of the Making It Sandwell campaign, which features young people across Sandwell sharing their stories of what making it in Sandwell is all about. Those who have shared their career aspirations and experiences include Danielle, one of the council’s electrician apprentices.

The 2025 UK top apprenticeship employers list – compiled by the Department for Education and RateMyApprenticeship – recognises and celebrates England’s leading apprenticeship employers for their overall commitment to employing apprentices, the diversity of their apprentices and apprentices’ feedback on their employer’s programme.
Ranked 64th this year, Sandwell has started over 1,100 people on apprenticeships since 2017, with more than 650 as new entrants to the council. Apprentices are employed in all departments of the council, including Sandwell schools, and have ranged in age from 16 to 62.
Apprenticeships available under the new 100 Apprentices programme will include Customer Service, Business Administration, Carpentry, IT, Early Years, Marketing, Horticulture, Housing/Property, Adult Social Care, Human Resources, Plumbing and Gas Central Heating, Painting and Motor Vehicle.
