We will be temporarily closing Wednesbury Library for three weeks while urgent building work is carried out.
The library in Walsall Street will be closed from Monday 5 October 2026 to allow specialist contractors to carry out essential asbestos removal work inside the building.
We want to reassure everyone that there is no risk to current or previous library users, staff, neighbouring businesses or members of the public.
The work will be carried out by licensed specialists in accordance with all health and safety regulations.
The library is expected to reopen on Monday 26 October, or sooner if the work is completed ahead of schedule.
We’re really sorry for any inconvenience, but we need to close the library completely so this work can be carried out safely. We know how important the library is to our community, and we can’t wait to welcome you back once this important work has been done.
While the library is closed, you can return books using the returns box at the front entrance. We are also extending opening hours at nearby libraries.
- Hill Top Library will be open Tuesdays 9.30am to 5pm and Saturdays until 4pm.
- Stone Cross Library will be open Wednesdays 9.30am to 1pm and Thursdays 9.30am to 1.30pm.
Don’t forget – you can use any Sandwell library – you don’t have to re-register. We’ll also have the mobile library in the area as often as we can while Wednesbury Library is closed. View a list of Sandwell libraries and their locations.
We’re making arrangements with community groups to move their activities to other buildings, and where we can we’re moving sessions to Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery and Wednesbury Town Hall.
