Full time students, student nurses and foreign language assistants can claim a reduction of up to 100% on their Council Tax bill providing one of the criteria below are met.
Students in full time education: Enrolled on a course which lasts for a minimum 24 weeks and 21 hours per week.
Students under the age of 20: Study in excess of 12 hours per week and run for more than 3 months.
Foreign language assistants: Registered with the British Council.
- If every member of the household meets one of these criteria then a 100% exemption can be awarded.
- If one member of the household does not meet one of the criteria then a 25% discount can be awarded.
- If two or more members of the household do not meet one of the criteria then no student discount is available.
