Bin collection changes – FAQs

Leaflets about the upcoming bin day changes are currently being delivered to those households affected.

If you haven't had a leaflet and are unsure if this change will affect you, please check the bin day finder.

1. Why is my bin collection day changing?

Since the service changes introduced last September, we have monitored how the new collections are working. As a result, we are making some adjustments to collection rounds to deliver a more efficient service.

2. When will the new collections start?

Your new collection day and/or week will start from week commencing 16 November 2026. If you are affected by the changes, you will receive a leaflet specific to your collections and collection calendar. You can also check if your schedule is changing on our bin day finder.

3. How do I find out my new collection day?

You can check your new collection day on our bin day finder.

4. Will my collection frequency change?

No. Your waste and recycling will continue to be collected on alternate weeks. However, your collection day or the type of bin you need to put out each week may change. Check your leaflet for this information.

5. Is everyone's bin day changing?

No, bin collections for some residents will remain on the same day and the same week. We have written to all residents whose collections will change. You can check your collection day on our bin day finder.

6. I have received a letter, but my collection day has not changed. Does this mean my bin collections aren’t changing?

Letters have only been sent to residents whose collections will change. If your collection day is staying the same, the type of bin you need to put out each week will be changing. Please check your leaflet for details.

7. Will my garden waste collection day change?

Your garden waste collection day may change. If you subscribe to the garden waste collection service, your garden waste bin will be collected on the same day and week as your grey bin.

You may also receive a one-off garden waste collection on either Saturday 14 November or Saturday 21 November, if you qualify. Please check the information we have sent to you carefully.

8. Will all my waste and recycling be collected on the same day of the week?

Yes. All of your waste and recycling collections will be on the same day of the week. Your recycling (blue lid) bin and (blue) bag and non-recycling (grey bin) will be collected on your new collection day on alternate weeks. Food waste will be collected weekly on this day.

If you subscribe to garden waste collections, this will continue to be collected on the same day as your non-recycling (grey) bin.

9. Why are some households receiving one-off collections as part of this change?

Some households that may have to wait longer for their collection due to the changes will receive a one-off non-recycling (grey) bin collection on either Saturday 14 November or Saturday 21 November to help make the change easier.

If you subscribe to garden waste collections, this will also be collected with your non-recycling (grey) bin.

Please check your leaflet for the date of your one-off collection if you qualify.

10. Why are you not providing one-off collections for my recycling (blue lid) bin and recycling (blue) bag?

Recycling can be stored for longer than non-recycling waste, so a one-off recycling collection is not needed. Please continue to use your recycling bin and bag and put them out on your new collection day from 16 November 2026.

11. What time should I put my bins out?

Please put your bins and recycling out by 5.30am on your collection day.

12. What happens if my bin collection is missed by crews?

If your bin is missed by the crew and not emptied, please report it online. We will arrange a collection in line with our usual missed-bin service.

Report a missed bin using your MySandwell account.

13. What will happen if I don’t put my bin out on the correct day?

We are unable to return to households that have not put their bin out on their bin collection day. Please take your bins / bags back onto your property and present them again on your next scheduled collection day. Alternatively, you can take your waste to the Household Recycling Centre (tip) at Shidas Lane, Oldbury.

14. Will assisted collections be affected?

If you currently receive assisted collections, we will continue to help with emptying your bin if your day and / or week changes. You don’t need to do anything.

15. Will I get a new bin?

No. You do not need a new bin.

16. What should I do if I have more waste because of the change?

Please use your recycling and food waste bins as usual. Do not leave extra waste next to your recycling (blue-lid )bin (unless it is additional folded card) or non-recycling (grey) bin, as it will not be collected. You can take your waste to the Household Recycling Centre (tip) at Shidas Lane, Oldbury.
