We have funding available for households who are struggling to pay their Council Tax bill. There is a limited amount of funding available for this financial year ending April 2024.
The council has been given £831,000 by the Government this financial year to help people with their Council Tax bill.
People who received Council Tax Reduction on 1 April 2023 have already been awarded up to £25 at the beginning of the financial year (in accordance with the Government's guidance) and will receive a further up to £25 before the end of this financial year.
For people who received Council Tax Reduction from 2 April 2023 they will also receive up to £50 shortly. This will be paid to you automatically onto your Council Tax account, there is no need to apply.
If you receive a 100% reduction in your Council Tax – so you don’t pay any Council Tax – unfortunately these £25 payments will not apply to you.
The remaining funding of £114,000 is being made available to households who are struggling with paying their Council Tax bill on a case-by-case basis.
How we may be able to help
If you are in a difficult financial situation and paying your Council Tax bill is causing you financial difficulty, you may be eligible for some financial help.
To be eligible for this help you must be able to show that your financial situation is affecting your ability to pay your Council Tax bill.
If you are not already receiving a Council Tax reduction, we can look at if you are eligible for this.
If you have an outstanding amount unpaid on this year’s Council Tax bill, but you are not eligible for our Council Tax Reduction scheme, we may be able to make a payment towards your bill or clear your bill for the rest of the year.
