Volunteers’ Week in Sandwell has been incredible as we’ve celebrated the estimated 48,000 helpers across the six towns.

Organisations all over the borough took the opportunity to say a special ‘thank you’ to their volunteer helpers who keep things going.

From sorting out the social media to washing the football kit, Sandwell volunteers support our local good causes in hundreds of different ways.

This year, some organisations combined their volunteer celebrations with a Big Lunch, supported by a Sandwell Council Vision 2030 grant on the theme of health and wellbeing.

Sandwell Council's Public Health team partnered with the borough’s voluntary sector support organisation, SCVO, to visit the calendar of organisations who each received £500 towards a healthy lunch and fun activities for volunteers and guests.

Councillor Jackie Taylor, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Events like these are a great reminder that wellbeing isn’t just about individual choices – it’s also about feeling connected, valued and supported. By celebrating our volunteers and strengthening links between communities and local organisations, we’re helping to build a healthier, happier Sandwell.”

Nationally, Eden Project’s Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours and communities, with millions of people congregating for a few hours of friendship, food and fun.

Volunteering is a great way to improve wellbeing, make friends and have fun. If you or someone you know would like to join the volunteering party, you can find hundreds of ways to get involved listed on the Let's Go Sandwell website. Volunteers’ Week ran from 2 to 8 June 2025.
