Council Tax bandings

Council Tax charges are different for each property valuation band and help pay for council services (like rubbish collection, schools, libraries, social services etc.) as well as fire and police services. From April 2016 a separate amount is also charged to pay for Adult Social Care within Sandwell.

Banding of Council Tax properties

The Council Tax banding for a property is set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and not Sandwell Council. The VOA is an independent body who are responsible for banding and any adjustments to your band as shown below: 

Can my band be removed if my property is unfit to live in? 

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) can only delete your band if a property is empty and being rebuilt or undergoing structural alterations. Find out if your band can be removed from the valuation list if your property is unfit to live in

Can my band be removed if my property is in poor repair?

The VOA cannot delete a band if a property is in poor repair. A band can only be deleted if the property is derelict and uninhabitable. For more information about removal of your band from the Valuation List if your property is in poor repair.

My property has been banded A, can this be reduced?

Band A is the lowest Council Tax band and the VOA cannot reduce this any further. Find out about properties in band A that are empty and/or derelict.
