Sandwell Towns Fund
West Bromwich, Smethwick, and Rowley Regis have been invited by the Government to create a Town Deal. This is a really exciting opportunity to bring investment into Sandwell.
- Urban Regeneration, Planning and Land Use;
- Skills and Enterprise Infrastructure; and
The Skills and Enterprise Infrastructure focuses on driving private sector investment and ensuring towns have the space to support skills and small business development.
This theme covers two areas - physical and digital.
We want those who live and/ or work in West Bromwich, Smethwick and Rowley Regis to be better physically connected. We want to ensure there are good transport links (train, bus, car) and look at improving the cycle and walking schemes.
We want residents, communities and businesses better digitally connected. We want to improve access to the internet through faster broadband speed, WIFI and mobile data. We want to ensure users have the digital skills and confidence to use digital devices and that accessibility meets the users needs.
A key part of the Town Deal is community engagement. We want you to get involved and share your views to help shape the Town Investment Plans for West Bromwich, Smethwick and Rowley Regis.
Sandwell Town Deal Survey (Closing Date - Tuesday 25th August 2020)
There are three surveys, one for each town. You can complete the short survey for your town by clicking on the red button below.
What is the survey for?
Your feedback will help to shape the vision for your town and what will be included in the Town Investment Plan. Once the data has been analysed, we will also be asking you to comment on projects as phase 2, in agreeing which projects need to be included as part of the £25million bid to government.
What are the priorities?
The priorities for each town will be shown within each survey.
How did you get the priorities for each town?
The emerging priorities we are asking for you to comment on have been identified through a range of data gathering, from a range of sources including but not limited to: -
- The Office of National Statistics
- Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council
- UK Government Data
- Census Data 2011
- Sandwell Super Board
- Town Partnership Board
- Local Groups
- A variety of existing surveys; and
- Consultations with residents and partners that have been undertaken by Sandwell Council to support other initiatives across Sandwell
The #MyTown was launched by Government to allow members of the public to make suggestions and submit ideas for West Bromwich, Smethwick and Rowley Regis. You can visit MyTown to read the suggestions made when the project was first announced.
We have established a Super Board comprising a wide range of key stakeholders from community, business, voluntary, public-sector and faith organisations. It is chaired by Jude Thompson, President of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and the board will make sure that Sandwell's three bids are complementary. You can view the latest information from the Sandwell Super Board meetings here.
We have established three Local Boards, one per town, to develop a series of proposals for funding. The proposals will be contained in a Town Investment Plan (TIP). We will submit the Town Investment Plans by early 2021.
