How old do you have to be to take part in performances?

This is no minimum age for a child to take part. A licence must be issued by the local authority in which the child lives.

What is classed as a performance?

Theatre work, modelling, film/broadcasting, dance shows and choir concerts. Additional performance types should be confirmed to ascertain if a licence is required.

Do I need a performance licence if I'm not being paid or having time off school?

Some performances do not require a full licence but qualify as an exemption from the licensing regulations. If you are not required to have any time off school, you are not being paid and/or the performance will be 4 days or less it may qualify as an exemption. Please contact us for more information.

What are the maximum times a child can perform?

Is there a minimum wage for young people under the age of 16?

There is no set minimum wage for young people of compulsory school age.

What is statutory school leaving age?

A young person ceases to be of statutory school age on the last Friday in June of the academic year that they turn 16.
