Jan is a relocated northerner who has worked in and around the West Midlands for the past 30 years. She was the first head of communications at the West Midlands Combined Authority where she worked with the current Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker as well as seven council leaders and seven chief executives in establishing the organisation.
She has also headed up communication teams at Dudley Council and City of Wolverhampton Council and more recently was assistant director at Telford and Wrekin Council. Additionally, she has worked with local authorities in Shropshire, Warwickshire and with the Marches Forward Partnership.
She has been working as an advisor and consultant since 2018 across the private, public and voluntary sector. She currently supports Richardson/RCL in Oldbury, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Shropshire Fire and Rescue, as well as managing bespoke communication projects for individual businesses – specialising in reputation management and business and political engagement.
Outside of work she co-founded Sgt Pepper’s Friendship Club, a CIC aimed at combatting social isolation, with her husband in 2018. The club which runs in Dudley borough goes from strength to strength welcoming between 80 to 100 members every week.
Jan is an experienced broadcaster with an early career in local radio. She is also a successful bid writer, project manager and facilitator with an exhaustive network across the region.
