Councillor Farut Shaeen

Councillor Farut Shaeen, Smethwick Town Lead Elected Member

Sandwell Council Elected Member

Farut has lived in Smethwick with her family for nearly 30 years and has been an elected councillor representing the Soho and Victoria ward in Smethwick for nearly a decade. During this time, she has been the Cabinet Member for Living Healthy Lives currently she is the Town Lead for Smethwick.

In her tenure as a representative for the people of Smethwick, she has advocated and led several initiatives to improve the Smethwick area. Listening to local residents’ concerns and working with local schools, talking to parents and local community organisations, she has led in improving road safety through installing pelican crossings and bollards, or making some roads a one way system because of car speeding issues.

Farut's children have attended local schools, and she has been a school governor for Cape Primary School.

As a parent, a local resident and as a Councillor, Farut has seen firsthand how Smethwick has changed over time and how the community continues to grow and improve.

When asked about the board she said, "I am passionate about continuing to advocate for the people of Smethwick. Having lived in the community for so long, I know this is an opportunity to improve Smethwick for everyone".
