Join us at the Kitchen Garden in Sandwell Valley Visitor Centre for our very first Wassail event.
Wassailing is an ancient tradition that involves blessing fruit trees to encourage abundant growth throughout the year. With joyful singing and dancing, the trees are blessed with cider and cider-soaked toast to attract good spirits. And to drive away evil spirits, we noisily bang pots and pans in a parade.
This free, family-friendly event will offer a range of activities, including performances by Morris dancers and a traditional Wassailing dance. You can also make your own natural leaf crowns, add colourful Wassailing cloth strips to your outfit and create your own chocolate-covered apple kebab. Additionally, you can enjoy delicious pork and apple baps, sausage and apple hot dogs, mulled apple juice, and cider from our snack shack.
This event promises good music, food, colours, and lots of noise! If you've never attended a Wassail event before, this is the perfect opportunity to discover this wonderful English tradition.
