How to apply
Step 1 - Read the guidance
Start by reading the funding guidance documents carefully. We have produced short guidance documents that are split into sections for easier navigation.
- Programme overview
- Investment themes and priorities
- Expected outputs and outcomes
- Who can apply
- What your project must demonstrate
- What can and can’t be funded
- Application process
- How applications are assessed
- Outcome of your application
- Payments, procurement, and local spend expectations
- Monitoring, compliance, and assurance requirements
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Guide to completing the Expression of Interest Form
- Guide to completing the Full Application Form
These documents will help you understand whether your project is eligible and how to put together a strong application.
Step 2 - Plan your project
Think about what you want to deliver, who will benefit and how your project will improve your local area. You may not have every detail yet, but you should have a clear idea and purpose.
Step 3 - Contact the Smethwick Neighbourhood Development Officer
All applicants must speak to a Neighbourhood Development Officer before applying. They can:
- Help you develop your idea
- Check your project meets the criteria
- Guide you through the process

Step 4 - Complete the Expression of Interest form
The Expression of Interest (EOI) is a short form where you outline:
- Your organisation
- Your project idea
- What difference it will make
This is the first stage of the application process.
Step 5 - Submit your Expression of Interest
Submit your Expression of Interest to smethwick_pfn@sandwell.gov.uk before the relevant deadline.
Once submitted, your proposal will be reviewed and you will be told if you can move to a full application.
