Welcome to the official website of the Smethwick Partnership Board

"We are proud to bring together a wide range of voices to help shape the future of our town. Smethwick is a place full of history, diversity and potential - and we’re here to ensure that our communities have a real say in the changes ahead.

"Our Board is a collaboration between local people, public services, businesses and voluntary organisations, working side by side to ensure that investment in Smethwick reflects the ambitions, values and priorities of the people who live and work here. We’re excited about the journey ahead and we want you to be part of it."

- Alan Taylor, Chair of the Smethwick Partnership Board
Sandwell Business Ambassador and Business Representative of MI Glass Limited

Why the Board was established

The Smethwick Partnership Board was set up to provide strong, representative local leadership for two major government funded programmes:

  • The Smethwick Towns Fund, and
  • The Plan for Neighbourhoods programme.

These programmes offer opportunities for regeneration and investment. Our role is to guide these programmes in a way that is transparent, inclusive and shaped by local knowledge and priorities.

Our Board includes representatives from all corners of Smethwick life - local residents, community groups, faith leaders, businesses, the voluntary sector, public-sector partners and our local MP. This diversity ensures that decisions are informed by those who know Smethwick best.

How the Board works

Our Board is chaired by Alan Taylor, Sandwell Business Ambassador and a local business representative from MiGlass Limited in Smethwick. Alan helps guide our work and keeps us focused on what matters most for our communities.

We’re a group of volunteers who bring our time, experience and local knowledge to the table. Every one of us has signed up to our Code of Conduct and Terms of Reference, which means we’re committed to working openly, fairly and responsibly.

We meet at a minimum four times a year - and now more regularly, following the launch of the Plan for Neighbourhoods programme - to check on progress, share updates and make decisions about the work ahead. These meetings aren’t open to the public or press, which helps us speak honestly and stay focused, but we’re still committed to being transparent. We publish key documents online so you can see what we’re doing and why.

Our Logo

In April 2025, we invited individuals, local organisations and community groups - especially those based right here in Smethwick - to design a logo for the Smethwick Partnership Board. We wanted something that would reflect who we are as a town: our rich culture, our diverse community and our shared hopes for the future.

Smethwick Partnership Board Logo

We asked that the logo include the words “Smethwick Partnership Board” and meet a few simple criteria:

  • Represent Smethwick’s people, culture and future
  • Be simple, memorable and free of unnecessary detail
  • Reflect inclusivity and collaboration
  • Work well across digital platforms like social media and websites

The response was fantastic. We received 17 creative and thoughtful submissions. At our board meeting on 20 May 2025, we reviewed each design and held a vote. We're proud to announce that the winning design came from [NAME].

As part of his/her prize, [NAME] received a £40 Odeon West Bromwich Cinema Voucher and, more importantly, the opportunity to showcase his/her talent to the wider community. His/her design will now help represent all of us in Smethwick as we continue to grow and work together.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to submit their ideas. Your creativity and passion truly captured the spirit of our town.

You can read more about the ideas behind the design from Naomi here.
