Meet the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Wasim Ali
Wasim is the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, following three years of service as Assistant PCC. He brings a strong track record in youth advocacy, public service and community leadership.
Wasim began his public involvement as Chair of the Sandwell Shadow Youth Cabinet, later becoming Chair of UK Youth Voice, representing over 800,000 young people nationally. He has spoken on youth issues at 10 Downing Street, the House of Lords and the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
He was part of the first cohort of West Midlands OPCC Youth Commissioners, proudly representing Sandwell. In addition to his youth engagement work, Wasim spent eight years working at his local hospital, including five years in A&E and served as a Non-Executive Director at Healthwatch Sandwell, giving voice to patients and healthcare users.
In 2018, Wasim was elected as a Councillor for the Smethwick ward, going on to serve as Cabinet Member for Core Services & Resources and Deputy Leader of Sandwell Council.
Speaking about his role on the Board, Wasim said: "I’m proud to serve my community and bring experience from health, youth advocacy and local government to support the regeneration and long-term vision for Smethwick. It's vital that residents feel heard and represented at every step of this journey."
