New update - important

This is an important update to the Smethwick Pride in Place funding programme following exceptionally high levels of interest from local organisations and community groups.

When the programme launched earlier this year, the £500 to £25,000 grant scheme was intended to operate as an open and rolling programme, with applications accepted until December 2026. However, due to the significant number of expressions of interest already received and the level of demand on available funding, the Board has made the decision to introduce a single application timetable for the current funding round.

Key updates to the funding programme:

  • Organisations wishing to apply for funding must now submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 25 September 2026.
  • All applicants with a successful EOI, including those whose EOIs were approved in August and September 2026, will be required to submit a full application by 23 October 2026 in order to be considered for funding.

Introducing a single application deadline will enable the Board to review all full applications together and make funding decisions based on the overall demand and quality of proposals, rather than receiving applications on a rolling basis when funding may no longer be available.

All applicants are reminded that they must speak with the Neighbourhood Development Officer before submitting an Expression of Interest. This discussion helps ensure project ideas are aligned with the aims of the programme and provides applicants with advice on developing their proposals.

Jude Thompson, Vice-Chair, on behalf of the Smethwick Partnership Board, said:

"The response to the Smethwick Pride in Place Year 1 funding programme has been extremely positive and demonstrates the passion, creativity and commitment that exists across our communities.

"The Board has taken the decision to introduce a single application deadline to help us manage the high level of demand and ensure that all proposals are assessed fairly and effectively. We would encourage any organisations considering an application to submit their Expression of Interest as soon as possible and make use of the support available through the programme.

“While the current funding round is being brought forward, organisations should be reassured that the Smethwick Pride in Place programme is a 10-year investment programme, with funding allocated annually by Government. The introduction of these deadlines does not mark the end of future funding opportunities. Instead, it allows the Board to assess the current level of demand and allocate Year 1 funding fairly and transparently. Further opportunities to apply for funding are expected in future years, subject to Government funding allocations and Board approval.”

The strong interest received to date reflects the ambition of local organisations to make a positive difference in their communities and deliver projects that contribute to a stronger, safer and more prosperous Smethwick.
