Smethwick High Street Bench Scheme
Following feedback from local residents during community engagement events in 2025, the Board has funded the replacement of benches along High Street, opposite the Blue Gates pub.
This project will provide seven replacement benches to improve the appearance of the area and provide comfortable seating for residents and visitors. The total project cost includes the purchase, delivery, removal of existing seating and installation of the new benches.
Who is delivering this project?
Sandwell Council is leading the delivery of this project on behalf of the Board, overseeing the replacement and installation of the new benches along High Street.
Why is this project being delivered?
Residents highlighted the need for improvements to seating in the area during community engagement events held in 2025. Concerns were also raised about the poor condition of the existing benches, including reports that damaged surfaces were catching and tearing clothing.
In response to this feedback, the Board commissioned this project directly to replace the ageing benches and help create a more welcoming, attractive and accessible public space for residents, visitors and local businesses.
