Sandwell Council hosted its Tenant Celebration event on Wednesday 3 June 2026 at Lightwoods House in Smethwick, bringing residents together to recognise the role tenants and leaseholders play.

The event formed part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to meaningful tenant engagement, creating a welcoming and inclusive space where residents, officers and partners could connect and build relationships.

Tenant recognition

The event placed strong emphasis on recognising tenants and celebrating their contribution to local communities. Certificate presentations and gift bags formed a key part of the day, acknowledging the role of residents in shaping and supporting housing services across the borough.

Feedback from attendees highlighted the value of the event in bringing people together and creating opportunities for connection.

The new Worshipful Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Margaret Sutton said “your involvement truly makes a difference, I’d like to thank the tenant engagement team in organising the event and their continues support in supporting tenants across the borough and were grateful to our contractors for contributing gift items for this event

Shenalee Brown one of the Tenants attending the event said “it was a really good event, it’s important to recognise people making a difference and I enjoyed the networking with other Tenants I haven’t seen.”

Supporting tenant engagement

A number of contract partners working with the Council supported the event by donating items to contribute to activities and gift bags. This collaborative approach helped to improve the event experience and demonstrated how contractors can go beyond their normal duties to deliver wider social value.

Contractors involved included Worcester Bosch, Lovell, PHC Parts, Seddon and The Dodd Group. Together, they provided a range of donated items including notebooks, pens, water bottles, mugs, socks, gift bags and practical items such as radiator keys. These contributions helped create resident packs and supported activities delivered on the day, ensuring attendees received both useful and thoughtful items. PHC also attended on the day, which was well received by residents and staff.

This event demonstrates the importance of tenants and how partnership working between Sandwell Council and its contractors can deliver meaningful social value.
