WorkWell is a new NHS‑led service supporting people with health conditions or disabilities to stay in, return to or move into work.

The Black Country is one of just 15 areas chosen to pilot the scheme, which aims to improve wellbeing, reduce sickness absence and help employers retain valued staff.

How WorkWell supports employees

Work and Health Coaches provide short‑term support tailored to each person’s needs. This can include building confidence, understanding rights at work, planning a return to work, exploring reasonable adjustments, accessing training or volunteering, and finding suitable job opportunities. WorkWell also acts as a single point of access, signposting individuals to other health and employment services where needed.

The service is available to anyone aged 16 or over who lives in the Black Country, is registered with a local GP or Jobcentre Plus and has the right to work in the UK. It supports people who are in work, off sick or out of work for up to six months due to health‑related barriers, with links to longer‑term support where needed.

Support for employers

WorkWell can work directly with employers to help them support staff with health needs, improve workplace conversations and understand legal responsibilities around reasonable adjustments. This can help businesses strengthen staff retention and build a healthier workforce.
