Friar Park is located in Wednesbury, within the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell.

While people often think of a place in terms of its houses, roads and buildings, the real story of Friar Park is its people. Families first came to the estate in the 1920s and 1930s in search of better homes and opportunities, laying the foundations of a strong and close-knit community that continues today.

Over the decades, Friar Park has seen significant change. The shops that once served local residents have disappeared, the tower blocks have been demolished, and many of the factories that provided employment have gone. Yet despite these changes, the spirit of Friar Park remains. Its history lives on through the memories, experiences and stories of the people who grew up here and continue to call it home.

Now, almost 100 years after the first families moved onto the estate, Friar Park is beginning a new chapter. Through the Pride in Place Programme, local people are helping to shape the future of their community while celebrating the heritage that makes Friar Park unique.

You can read more about Friar Park's history from Mark (Snarka) Whitehouse, Vice Chair of the Board - 'A history of an estate and its people'.
