Wednesbury Baptist Church Kitchen Improvements
Wednesbury Baptist Church in Vicar Street in Wednesbury offers a range of community activities from coffee mornings, stay and play sessions, lunch clubs, friendship groups and worship (as well as many other activities).
Wednesbury Baptist Church applied for CIL funding to improve their kitchen to allow them to hold more community activities and develop opportunities for local people in Wednesbury.
Wednesbury Baptist Church plan to offer more cooking-based activities including the possibility of healthy eating sessions and classes in the future. This potentially includes opening on Christmas day to supply a Christmas dinner for local people who live alone.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £2,500.00.
Wednesbury 2000
Opening up Wednesbury 2000
Wednesbury 2000 have received CIL funding to bring a local and historical building back into use. This will enable other local organisations to utilise the projects and facilities that Wednesbury 2000 offer.
The CIL funding will allow for completion of repairs to the fire exit stairwell from the ground to the first floor. This will enable other floors of the building to have safe access to support development and usage in the future.
By opening up this space it will give local individuals, businesses and organisations affordable space to deliver their services in Wednesbury Town Centre.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £4,200.00.
Friar Park Millennium Centre
Friar Park Millennium Centre Sensory Room
The Friar Park Millennium Centre in Wednesbury have received CIL funding to purchase equipment for their recently developed sensory room. The Friar Millennium Centre plan to allow the onsite nursery, families and the Looked after Children Team to book the sensory room for use.
The facility will also be used for the junior youth club which is inclusive to all and the Project will benefit users with additional needs who attend this club and will be offered to the Special Need School that is being built next to the Friar Park Millennium Centre in the longer term.
The CIL funding will be used to purchase a projector, sensory toys, bubble machine, sensory table (with activities) and chairs or beanbags.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £3,575.30.
Sky Force FC
Sky Force Football Club Equipment
Skyforce F.C is an organisation recently established in 2017 and the club aims to get youths off the streets and playing football in a fun and safe environment. The club has a diverse membership and is looking to extend their project through further training and will ensure the safety of the children, volunteers and parents in a post COVID-19 environment.
The one-off purchase of essential football equipment will enable the safe running of the club and re-start of training and matches following COVID-19. It is planned that football games will be played across various pitches in Sandwell from Autumn 2020 onwards.
CIL funding is requested for purchase of football nets, footballs, crowd barriers, corner posts and other more minor items to support the delivery of the project.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £975.69.
The Parish of West Bromwich, St James and St Paul
(Known locally as St James Church)
Youth club and Media suite project
The Parish of West Bromwich, St James and St Paul (known locally as St James Church) were awarded CIL funding to enable the group to offer a new and innovative multi media suite for use at their youth club.
The equipment will be available for free use by youth club members. The equipment will teach users to produce videos, create and edit music to a professional standard opening up potential career paths.
A number of volunteers (several of whom have extensive musical skills) will provide support, advice and backing tracks.
The youth club will also be able to purchase other technological equipment and traditional youth club equipment offering young people an interesting sociable place.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £3,917.05.
Wednesbury Bowls Club
Wednesbury Bowls Club Facilities
Wednesbury Bowls Club has received CIL funding to purchase an accessible portable toilet for their bowling green site on Hydes Road which had no toilet facilities.
The club hopes that the new facilities will encourage more people to play and that teams will be able to compete in leagues.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £1,200.
The Friends of Brunswick Park
Brunswick Community Day
The Friends of Brunswick Park is a long established Organisation and are now registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Their mission is to promote the use and development of Brunswick Park in Wednesbury.
The Friends of Brunswick Park applied for CIL funding to support the activities that are run in the Brunswick Park.
The CIL funding has helped fund sports equipment e.g. netball, rounders, balls etc to encourage more users into the park by providing activities.
The CIL funding was used to purchase new sports equipment and support Community Events the group undertake and promote the tree trail to users.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £1,878.10.
St Francis Church
Church Hall Refurbishment
St Francis Church is a hub of the community based in Friar Park. The Church Hall provides space for a variety of activities including Coffee Mornings, Bingo and Quiz evenings, a Bereavement Support Group and Local Community Social Events.
The organisation has been successful in receiving CIL funding to help develop their “Place of Welcome”. They have purchased tables, chairs and light exercise equipment. The furniture will also be used by other community groups at the Church Hall.
The CIL funding will help the organisation encourage more people to join the Place of Welcome meetings and allow other groups to benefit from the new facilities.
The Group were awarded CIL funding of £2,914.33.
Wodensborough Amateur Boxing Club
Boxing & Gym Equipment
Wodensborough Amateur Boxing Club are a well-established Boxing Club which has been operating since 2010.The club has an established history of boxing pedigree, with many members winning Midland and National titles.
The club runs 6 days a week and run classes for ages from 7-years old up to 60+ years.
The club has received CIL funding to increase the amount of boxing and exercise equipment they have. The addition of the treadmill, rowing machine and the spin/exercise bike, as well as boxing equipment will allow more people to use the gym for boxing and keep-fit sessions.
The Group were awarded CIL funding of £4,144.00.
Wednesbury Sons of Rest
Banquet Chairs
Wednesbury Sons of Rest was established in 1938. The Hall is used for various groups; Carers (Mental Health) Support Group, A Tenants Association, Sons of Rest Group and many more.
The Sons of Rest Group have received CIL funding to purchase 40 banquet style chairs. These will improve the facilities at the Hall.
The improved facilities will allow the hall to be used by new groups and local residents, as well as helping to increase its membership.
The Group were awarded CIL funding of £1,153.60.
Friends of Goldicroft Park
Village Green
The Friends of Goldicroft Park are a recently established group, in response to the proposed development on Goldicroft Park. Local residents have come together to encourage additional use of the green space.
They have received CIL funding to help purchase tools, sports equipment, a generator and gazebo to be able to organise sports and community events and activities.
The new facilities will encourage local residents to utilise this green space further and demonstrate the importance of keeping Goldicroft Park as a green space for the community to enjoy.
The Group were awarded CIL funding of £914.57.
Breakthru
Beyond Blue Counselling Service
Breakthru was established in 2016 and is an organisation that works with communities and individuals in the Sandwell area. They aim to bring people together, encouraging wellbeing both mentally and physically and assisting social inclusion. This is done through various groups and sessions.
The Organisation currently provides approximately 600 counselling sessions per year, via their Beyond Blue Counselling service, at their current office, but all of these are on a 1 to 1 basis.
The group have received funding for furniture; a sofa, chair and table, to allow them to offer counselling at Wednesbury Library. This will allow them to increase their counselling services to include couples and families, meaning a significant increase in the numbers of sessions they can offer.
The group were awarded CIL funding of £1,247.
617 Sandwell Air Scouts
Young Peoples Access to Camping
617 Sandwell Air Scouts is a voluntary organisation formed in October 2017, which supports children and young adults from the age of 4.
The Scout Group currently has limited capability to go on camping trips. When they do, they are limited on the number that can attend. They also have to hire cooking equipment, which makes the cost restrictive.
The scout group has received CIL funding to increase the amount of camping and cooking equipment they have. These facilities will enable the complete Scout Group to go on camps together and it will reduce the cost of the camping trips.
Group were awarded CIL funding of £2,533.22.
Central (& Woods) Methodist Church
Everyone welcome drop in
The Central (& Woods) church has been established since the 1700’s and the community centres being operational for about 25 years. They currently offer a wide range of religious, sporting, youth and social activities for the local community.
The Central (& Woods) church want to utilise their 2 halls, one at Spring Head and one at Woods, to increase its support for the local community and to extend their services by offering ‘Drop-in’ sessions, for people who want some friendly social interaction and activity.
The group has received CIL funding to purchase water boilers, toaster, coffee machine, fridge, microwave and grill. These facilities will enable the group to set-up the new ‘Drop-in’ sessions offering hot drinks and light refreshments at their 2 centres.
Group were awarded CIL funding of £2,973.88.
Friar Park Allotment Association
Portaloo
The Friar Park Allotment Association has been established for about 100 years. They are a well-established, well maintained Allotments rented from Sandwell Council. The allotment consists of 37 plots which are fully utilised.
Since the pandemic, they have seen an increase in the number of females and children getting involved in their activities. The Allotment does not have any toilet facilities which is unsatisfactory for all plot holders and visitors.
The group has applied for CIL funding to acquire an accessible Portaloo, ensuring adequate and hygienic toilet facilities for all members and visitors. The purchase of the Portaloo will not only enhance the allotment experience for plot holders but also enable the group to organise open days, fostering community engagement and sharing knowledge.
Amount of CIL funding received is £1,500.
Lets Dance Again
Lets Dance Again Community Workshop
Let’s Dance Again started in 2021 supporting the elderly in Sandwell, who were suffering with isolation as a result of Covid-19. The group have expanded rapidly and now operate from Wednesbury Town Hall, with weekly Monday Coffee Mornings and monthly Thursday Afternoon Shows, which provides fish & chips and a live entertainer.
The expansion of the group meant that they were in need of catering equipment. The group have also consulted with their members and there is a demand for basic computer, ICT skills.
Let’s Dance Again applied for CIL funding to purchase 2 laptops, 8 tablets and a printer to support their ICT skill training sessions. In addition the funding will purchase water boilers, mugs, storage boxes and a toaster for their Coffee Morning and Thursday Afternoon show.
The Group were awarded CIL funding of £4,414.94.
Wednesbury Cultural Hub
Wednesbury Cultural Hub Play Group
Wednesbury Cultural Hub is a newly formed group that started in January 2023. Their aim is to provide a community space for parents and their children from diverse backgrounds. The group want parents to be able to socialise, improve their own mental health and wellbeing whilst their children can explore, develop confidence and learn to interact with others.
Wednesbury Cultural Hub Play Group applied for CIL funding to set up a play group at Hill Top Community Centre. This funding will allow the group the opportunity to put on a weekly parent and toddler group for the parents and children.
The group received CIL funding for items such as baby equipment, toys and learning resources.
Group were awarded CIL funding of £2,633.52.
FP Millennium Centre
FPMC IT & internet suite
Friar Park Millennium Centre (FPMC) manages the community centre to ensure that it provides a welcoming, accessible, and safe environment for the local community.
Whilst hosting members of the community as a Warm Space, the organisers have identified that there was a need for IT provision in the local area.
FPMC applied for a CIL grant to purchase laptops, computer desks, office chairs, a printer and laptop locks. These items are in addition to a set of chromebooks that were previously donated to the group. The group will use this equipment to set up a new IT Hub. This IT Hub will provide new opportunities with regular IT training sessions and enable new and existing residents of all ages to have access to IT equipment.
Amount of CIL funding being received is £2,929.49
Open Heaven Church
Open Space @ Open Heaven
Open Heaven Wednesbury is a local community church within Friar Park that offers a range of activities and services to local residents and the wider Sandwell Area. The group provide activities for children and young people, including parent & toddlers, children’s club, youth group, after school drop-in sessions and mentoring.
The group applied for CIL funding to purchase 2 partition doors and 80 chairs. This will help create a confidential area within the church hall and allow them to support new groups and provide the level of privacy that is required for some sessions.
The new confidential area will allow the group to provide Youth Multimedia training and to start providing sessions for Men’s Mental Health, Wellbeing and Art Therapy.
Amount of CIL funding received is £4,096.00.
