Your Choices at 16
When you reach 16, you will need to make decisions about your next steps.
Although you can leave school at the end of Year 11, you must be in education or training until age 18.
This does not mean staying in school — you can choose from a range of pathways.
What Are My Options After Year 11?
• Sixth form
• College or Study Programme
• Study Programme with a training provider
• Apprenticeship or job with training
• Supported internship
• Supported employment
• Volunteering with training
• Employment or self‑employment
• Social care support where appropriate
Sixth Form
You can stay at your current school or move to another sixth form. Courses may include:
• A Levels
• Vocational courses
• T Levels
• GCSEs
• BTECs
• Functional Skills

Further Education (FE) Colleges
Local colleges offer:
• Academic courses
• Vocational courses
• Work‑related learning
• Life skills programmes
• Supported learning
Colleges have SEND teams who can provide additional support and reasonable adjustments.
