The Sandwell Residents Survey 2023 highlighted that many residents in Wednesbury do not feel safe. Among all Sandwell towns, Wednesbury received the lowest score for perceptions of safety. Part of the Wednesbury Levelling Up Fund, the Wednesbury Community Safety Projectis delivering improvements to make the town safer and more resilient.

CCTV infrastructure has been upgraded in Wednesbury Town Centre and Friar Park. The installation of higher-quality cameras increases the likelihood of identifying individuals involved in crime or anti-social behaviour, including fly-tipping. This improvement has supported both the police and the council in taking enforcement action. Further details can be found in the press release launching the CCTV scheme.

Partnership work with businesses in Wednesbury Town Centre is focusing on new safety measures, including the introduction of a radio link scheme and the Safe Spaces scheme, launched in November 2024. More information can be found here

These initiatives aim to strengthen collaboration between businesses, address crime and anti-social behaviour, improve safety, and build resilience within the community.

Action has also been taken to tackle nuisance bikes. Public awareness campaigns have encouraged reporting, which has assisted in dealing with known offenders. Additional measures have been introduced in the Friar Park area to make it more difficult for nuisance bike activity to persist. Reports of nuisance bikes can be made here.
