Groups and individuals funded in Old Warley Ward

Elected Members in Sandwell have access to four small funding streams for activities and events that help support the residents in their ward and town.

Events and projects across Sandwell are funded via many different budgets: 

CIL Funding – The Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge applied by the council on new building developments in the area. In Sandwell, 15% of these funds can be spent in the local community. Community Infrastructure Levy Grants of up to £5,000 are available to community groups to enhance their work.

Ward Member Budgets – Each ward member (local elected councillor) has their own budget which they allocate on projects or events within their ward to help support their ward priorities. 

Each ward member has an annual budget of £2,000.

• Neighbourhoods Support Budget – The Neighbourhoods Support Budget is available to Elected Members within the town to solve issues they identify which are affecting our residents. Where an issue cannot be solved with the other available funds, the Neighbourhoods Support Budget ensures that we are pro-active in supporting our residents. Each Town has an annual budget of £10,000.
 
• Events - Across each Town there is a small Events budget which is allocated by Elected Members to fund events that bring communities together. Each town has an annual budget of £5,000.

Wernley Bowling Club - Hair Cut 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £4,784.50

Wernley Bowling Club is a small community organisation based in Oldbury. They have around 34 members that meet up weekly to take part in bowls games.
The purpose of the organisation is for the local community to play bowls, meet new people and reduce social isolation.

Wernley Bowling Club have received CIL funding for a new lawn mower. 

Without the lawn mower the organisation was unable to maintain the bowling green and was close to putting the continuation of the club at risk.

The group have now purchased the lawn mower and has ensured the continuation of the bowling club. the club will be providing monthly free taster sessions for the local community in order to attract new members.

The Old Cross Bowling Club - Mechanical Equipment for The Green 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £3,679.94

The Old Cross Bowling club is a small community organisation based in Oldbury. They have around 45 members that meet up weekly to take part in bowls games.
The purpose of the organisation is for the local community to play bowls, meet new people and reduce social isolation.

The club have been successful in receiving CIL funding to purchase mechanical equipment to improve the condition of the bowling green to prevent it from becoming waterlogged and causing a hazard. 

The purchase of the auto rotorake, scarifier, steel drag mat and roller cassette will enable the organisation to maintain the bowling green and encourage new members.

Kings Community Church - Kings Oak Uniform Bank Refurbishment 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £1,127.98.

Kings Community Church is a registered charity that focuses on helping the local community deal with isolation, vulnerability, and mental health.

Kings Community Church have been running a School Uniform Bank since 2019 and have recently moved to a new location at Brandhall Community Hub. Since moving, the organisation has noticed an increased demand for their services.

The charity has been successful in their application for CIL funding to purchase shelving, paint, and storage boxes to create a welcoming and efficient storage space for their Uniform Bank.

The funding will enable them to sort, store and display the items of clothing and shoes.  This will create a tidy, safe and easy to access space to distribute the uniform.


Christ Church the Quinton (and Brandhall ) - Toddler 2 Teens 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £2,288

Christ Church the Quinton (and Brandhall) is a well-established registered charity that offer a range of outreach projects throughout the week. The organisation works in partnership with other churches across the borough and created the Brandhall Community Hub in 2021.

The ‘Toddlers 2 Teens’ project based at Brandhall Community Hub in Oldbury started in May 2022. The purpose is to provide free pre-loved children’s clothing for the local community.

Due to an increase in demand, there is a dedicated drop-in session every Thursday when parents and agencies can come and collect free children’s clothing and school uniform. Currently all clothes are stored in black bags with labels over them.

The organisation has been successful receiving CIL funding for shelving, boxes, clothes rails, mannequins, portable tube heaters, pavement board sign.

This has enabled them to sort, store and display the items of clothing, keep the space tidy, safe, and easy to access when distributing the items. This has provided a service that reflects more of a shopping experience rather than a jumble sale.
