Grants and Funding

Elected Members in Sandwell have access to four small funding streams for activities and events that help support the residents in their Ward and Town.

Events and projects across Sandwell are funded via many different budgets: 

• CIL Funding – The Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge applied by the council on new building developments in the area. In Sandwell 15% of these funds can be spent in the local community. Community Infrastructure Levy Grants of up to £5,000 are available to Community Groups to enhance their work.

All applications for grants funded by Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) require a public consultation. View and comment on the current consultations. 
 
• Ward Member Budgets – Each ward member (local elected councillor) has their own budget which they allocate on projects or events within their ward to help support their ward priorities. 

Each ward member has an annual budget of £2,000.

• Neighbourhoods Support Budget – The Neighbourhoods Support Budget is available to Elected Members within the Town to solve issues they identify which are affecting our residents. Where an issue cannot be solved with the other available funds, the Neighbourhoods Support Budget ensures that we are pro-active in supporting our residents. Each Town has an annual budget of £10,000.
 
• Events - Across each Town there is a small Events budget which is allocated by Elected Members to fund events that bring communities together. Each Town has an annual budget of £5,000.

Litter Watch - Sandwell Learn to Grow

The group were awarded CIL funding of £2,685.20

Litter Watch is an organisation which aims to improve the local environment through practical regeneration and educational activities for local people across Sandwell.

The Caroline Street Community Gardens has a range of volunteer opportunities.

Litter watch have received CIL funding to repair two wooden cabins situated at the Caroline Street Community Gardens. The two cabins were both in urgent need of remedial works such as new flooring and doors.

The two cabins have now been refloored and repaired meaning that the organisation and other communities, schools and users have a safe space to work and rest.

Greets Green Community Enterprise - Outside Learning Space 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £1,144.32

Greets Green Community Enterprise is an organization that is set up to provide facilities to enable the community to come together for a wide range of leisure and educational activities. 

Greets Green Community Enterprise applied for CIL funding for their outside learning space and plan to purchase different types of trees, soil and blackboard paint for this area.

The aim of the project is to improve the outside learning space to make it more user friendly, improving the environment and to make the space a positive place where children can engage with nature and take part in outside learning. 

Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisations - Greets Green Resource Centre – New Tables 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £4,089.

Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisations started in 1985. They have an open-door policy which encourages Sandwell residents to get involved in a wide range of activities, all free of charge.

Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisations has successfully received CIL funding for 6 mobile folding tables.

The aim of the project is to be able to put on more sessions each week, by having more flexibility and capacity in the Greets Green Resource Centre. They are looking to welcome new members to become a part of Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisations and get involved in the free activities the Centre has to offer.

Lodge Community Centre Refurb

The group were awarded CIL funding of £4,866.08

Lodge Community Centre is a community organisation based in West Bromwich. They offer services to a very diverse community such as youth clubs, karate, boxing and ESOL classes.

There are around 350 people who attend weekly and take part in the activities. The organisation is refurbishing the centre, with new flooring in its community rooms and other areas.

Lodge Community Centre has been successful in receiving CIL funding for new chairs and tables, as their previous facilities were broken and dangerous.

These items will enable the organisation to continue to serve their current users and to also attract new members.

SPDC - Active Families

The group were awarded CIL funding of £815.87

SPDC is a well-established registered charity that was formed around 20 years ago by a group of parents who had disabled children and felt that there were no activities for them.

SPDC delivers various activities on behalf of the Children’s Trust, which includes activities during the summer holidays, activities at half terms and a weekly Family Club during term time.

The Family Club is based at West Bromwich Leisure Centre. There are around 150 disabled children, their siblings and family that attends.

The organisation had a limited amount of equipment provided by West Bromwich Leisure Centre to support activities at the Family Club. Not all of which was suitable for use with disabled or very young children.

The organisation has now been successful in receiving CIL funding which helped purchase goals, footballs, space hoppers and foamed balls.

The funding has enabled the organisation to provide more appropriate equipment for their various activities and Club. It has helped to support the existing members and the opportunity to encourage greater participation.
