Groups and individuals funded in Bristnall Ward

Elected Members in Sandwell have access to four small funding streams for activities and events that help support the residents in their ward and town.

Events and projects across Sandwell are funded via many different budgets: 

CIL Funding – The Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge applied by the council on new building developments in the area. In Sandwell, 15% of these funds can be spent in the local community. Community Infrastructure Levy Grants of up to £5,000 are available to community groups to enhance their work.

Ward Member Budgets – Each ward member (local elected councillor) has their own budget which they allocate on projects or events within their ward to help support their ward priorities. 

Each ward member has an annual budget of £2,000.

• Neighbourhoods Support Budget – The Neighbourhoods Support Budget is available to Elected Members within the town to solve issues they identify which are affecting our residents. Where an issue cannot be solved with the other available funds, the Neighbourhoods Support Budget ensures that we are pro-active in supporting our residents. Each Town has an annual budget of £10,000.
 
• Events - Across each Town there is a small Events budget which is allocated by Elected Members to fund events that bring communities together. Each town has an annual budget of £5,000.

Step Way - Community Garden Project
 

Stepway were awarded CIL funding of £4,250.00

Stepway is a registered charity that offers a structured pathway for veterans needing support, facing challenges and adapting to civilian life.

The organisation work with the individuals helping them with counselling, mentoring and develop new skills and to reduce social isolation.

Stepway have received CIL funding to develop a Community Garden at the Salvation Army base in Oldbury. Which has helped bring together the wider community.

The Community Garden has helped people learn new skills such as growing their own food, cooking it and maintaining the site.

The Community Garden is open for all ages at free of cost.

The CIL funding has allowed Stepway to purchase items such as garden equipment, tools, sheds to which has helped set up the garden.

 


The Salvation Army, Oldbury - Shokin Youth Club


The group were awarded CIL funding of £3,423.96.

The Salvation Army - Oldbury is a well-known Registered Charity that serves the local the community. The organisation has been involved with youth work, community café’s, warm space, and a range of mid-week activities 

The group run two youth clubs every Friday, ‘Kids Klub’ operates 6pm-7:15pm which is for 4-11-year olds and ‘Shokin’ runs 7:45pm-9pm for 12-15-year olds. There are approximately 67 Children that attend, in total.

The group have been successful in receiving funding for 2 Smart TVs, 2 mobile TV Stands, and a Table Football game. This has enabled the young people to get involved with a variety of activities such as singing and dancing and other fun games.

This equipment has helped the young people staying social in a safe place.

KRUNCH UK - Give us a penny to spend a penny! Give us some doe so we can all go! 
 

The group were awarded CIL funding of £950.00

KRUNCH is a well-established registered charity that offers help to children and young people by offering them services, advice, mentoring and after school activities in Sandwell.

The organisation is open Monday-Friday, and the purpose is to create an environment where young people feel safe, accepted, and valued no matter what the circumstance.

The location is very popular and is visited by young people on a weekly basis along with a few community organisations who use the building to put on community activities. 

KRUNCH are continuously looking to improve the building and therefore asked the young people to take part in a consultation about what improvements would be needed to make the service better.

A lot of the responses were relating to the toilets, with comments about the lack of privacy and the disabled toilet not meeting the requirements.

The organisation has been successful with receiving CIL funding to provide Disability Discrimination Act Standard toilet facilities.


Ideal for All - Polytunnel Replacement

The group were awarded CIL funding of £3,984.01

Ideal for All is a well-established registered charity which is run by and for disabled and disadvantaged people.  The members/service users include vulnerable and older people and their carers. The services provided are to help local people improve their independence, health, and wellbeing.

The organisation has been successful in receiving CIL funding for items that has helped replace their polytunnel at Salop Drive, Oldbury.  This space had fallen into disrepair over the last 5 years and is a vital part of the community growing infrastructure. Due to this funding it will now be fully accessible and allow all abled and disabled people to use the facilities.

Service users are now able to use this space to access therapeutic and skills sessions. The group can support schools, children and families to access healthy lifestyle and wellbeing sessions.

The sessions will show them how to grow their own produce and learn how to cook healthy meals and be part of the ‘bag your share’ food distribution scheme for local residents.
