This scheme is complete!

The West Bromwich Urban Greening Project, part of the West Bromwich Towns Fund Programme, has successfully delivered a range of initiatives to enhance local green spaces and create a more welcoming and attractive town centre.

The scheme set out to enhance green spaces, increase biodiversity, and create a more welcoming and attractive town centre for everyone to enjoy. The improvements include the introduction of new trees, parklets, and play space, all designed to complement wider infrastructure works that strengthen links between the Town Centre and Sandwell Valley.

The project’s Full Business Case was approved by the UK Government in March 2022, with works delivered in two main phases:

  • Phase 1 (August to December 2022) - Restoration of the Farley Fountain and Dartmouth Square Clock.
  • Phase 2 (March to August 2023) - Introduction of new paving, parklets, play area, and tree planting along Princess Parade, High Street, and Bull Street.

Green Roots Cultural Programme

Running alongside the physical works, a Cultural Programme was delivered by Multistory, engaging local communities through creativity and storytelling.

This programme used artistic interpretation and public participation to celebrate West Bromwich’s identity while promoting mental and physical wellbeing. It ran in parallel with the main project and concluded in August 2025.

West Bromwich High street Digital Map

As part of Multistory’s Green Roots Cultural Programme, artist and poet Lee Mackenzie created a unique digital commission celebrating West Bromwich.

The West Bromwich High Street Digital Map is an illustrated poetry map and musical score that connects the High Street to nearby green spaces. It features drawings of many of the town’s most recognisable buildings, accompanied by musical notations capturing the sounds and rhythms of the High Street.
