This project is designed to support the ongoing revitalisation of Wednesbury by improving the attractiveness, safety and functionality of the town centre. Building on the success of the Wednesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone, which included upgrades to Market Place, these improvements will further enhance the town’s appeal for residents, businesses and visitors.

Completed enhancements include:

  • More comfortable benches
  • Additional bins to reduce litter
  • New trees and planting to introduce more greenery
  • Brighter, high-quality paving
  • Improved lighting, featuring traditional-style lanterns

The Public Realm consultation took place between 29 February and 11 March 2024, and community feedback has helped shape the final designs for these upgrades. View the Public Realm and Urban Greening FAQ’s information here.

Wednesbury Town Centre Masterplan

Alongside these physical improvements, a comprehensive review of the town centre has been undertaken to identify opportunities for regeneration and to address underused or derelict sites. This work has informed the creation of a Town Centre Masterplan.

A masterplan is a strategic document that sets out a long-term vision for how a place can evolve. It helps guide decision-making and supports future funding bids for regeneration from the UK government and other sources.

The Masterplan consultation took place from 7 May to 11 June 2024, shaped by public input, local assessments and expert analysis of future development potential.
