Food vouchers for eligible families during school holidays
Published 22nd May 2023
Sandwell Council has committed to spend £3.5million on food vouchers during school holidays for eligible families from their household support fund allocation.
Vouchers of £15 per child will be issued to around 22,000 children for the upcoming half-term holiday at the end of this month.
The £3.5million will fund vouchers during each school holiday up to the February 2024 half-term holiday.
Councillor Simon Hackett, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Education at Sandwell Council, said: “The voucher scheme for school holidays is something we started during the pandemic and we know it’s been a real help to those families most in need of financial support.
“It's important we continue to help families during the school holidays with these vouchers and want to thank schools in helping us to distribute.
Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, Leader of Sandwell Council, added: “Food costs are soaring adding to the challenges already faced during this cost of living crisis. Families can be reassured we are continuing with vouchers during the school holidays to help towards the cost of meals.
“We are committed to supporting Sandwell residents in every way we can so if anyone is looking for help and advice, please visit our Supporting Sandwell information hub.”
There is no need to apply and parents and carers of eligible Sandwell school children will be contacted through their child's school to receive vouchers to go towards the cost of food for the break.
