Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Richard Jones, said:
“I am so pleased to have had the honour of attending Sandwell’s first pride celebration at the weekend especially as it was being held 50 years after the first Pride protest. As Sandwell’s first openly gay mayor, my consort and partner Cllr Richard McVittie and I were amazed by the amount of people that came along to support the event. It had a great family friendly community led atmosphere. I was overwhelmed by the supportive comments on the day and since. I want to thank all the Sandwell Council staff and partners that have worked tirelessly to organise this amazing event but most of all I want thank all those that attended. Thank you for making Sandwell history and making it such a memorable day!”
