Thank you, Sandwell, for your interest in Food Waste Collections

Published 24th March 2022

From 28 March Sandwell’s food waste (brown bin) collections will restart across the borough

We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from Sandwell residents who have ordered a new food waste bin and shared our social media posts. We thank you for this support.

We have had almost 2,000 requests for a new food waste bin in the last two weeks and our crews are busy delivering these. We ask for your support and patience during this busy period as we endeavour to get your food waste bin delivered to you.

Residents can recycle all types of food waste, including meal leftovers, fruit and vegetable peel/vegetable peelings or just peelings, meat and fish bones, stale bread and cakes plus tea bags and uneaten pet food.

Food waste bins are collected weekly and should be put out with your blue-lidded bin on your normal collection day.

A full list of items can be found on the website:

Councillor Ahmad Bostan, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: "We are delighted that food waste collections are restarting. This is real boost to recycling collections for our residents. The food waste collection service will provide a much better end-use for all of our leftover food, which in turn supports our environment.”

Tony Marston, Serco’s Senior Contract Manger, said: “If you don’t have an indoor kitchen caddy you can always reuse something from around the home – like an old ice cream tub – to keep in your kitchen. Remember to use newspaper or kitchen roll to line the container to help keep your brown bin clean. Alternatively, you can buy compostable liners from most major retailers.”

Residents who don’t currently recycle their food waste and want to start, can order a replacement bin for free here:
