Sandwell to issue free school meal vouchers to eligible families this festive season

Published 14th December 2021

Parents and carers will soon be contacted through their child's school to receive vouchers to go towards the cost of food for this festive season.

Councillor Karen Simms, Cabinet Member for children and education said:

"At this special time of year it is even more important that children do not go hungry which is why I am proud to announce the availability of funding for free school meals for eligible families. I encourage all those families who are eligible to take up this offer.

I would like to thank all of our schools for their help and support in getting these vouchers to those families who need them but also for all the work and support they have provided for families throughout the entire year."

Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, Leader of Sandwell Council, added:

"We know that many parents and carers make sacrifices to provide a merry Christmas for their children at this time of year and we hope that this scheme will make it just that little bit easier for them do so. I wish all our families the best season’s greetings.”

Eligible families will receive a voucher for £30 per child for the two week school holiday.

Schools will contact parents in the coming week when details on how to access the vouchers will be available.

As part of a government-funded programme, Sandwell Council is also providing free activities and food for children this Christmas. Families can find out more details and book these activities online at
