Deputy Mayor braves the shave for World AIDS Day
Published 1st December 2021
The Deputy Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Richard Jones, will on World AIDS Day (1 December) have his head shaved to show solidarity with people living with HIV, and raise funds for charities.
World AIDS Day is an annual opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS by increasing awareness, tackling prejudice and improving education.
Sandwell Council will be lighting Sandwell Council House red from 4pm on 1 December to show its commitment as a local authority and employer to supporting people living with HIV. Councillor Jones will be raising money by undergoing ‘Brave the Shave’ at 5pm, shaving his head and beard outside the Council House.
Monies raised will be shared equally between the Sandwell Mayors Charity, St. John Ambulance, and the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Councillor Jones said: “On World AIDS Day, I invite the people of Sandwell to join me in supporting people living with and affected by AIDS.
“I want to remind everyone how easy it is to get tested for AIDS and to ‘know your status’.
